Silvagem Irish Setters

About Me

Sophie the PossumFreddie the Possum

I have always had a love of animals but unfortunately became allergic to fur at the age of 8, this I thought had ended my dream of owning and possibly working with them.  Luckily the allergy faded and at the age of 17 I got my first dog from Battersea Dogs Home in London.  After Prince came a Golden Retriever named Sonni who was the most gentle and loving girl.  As Sonni became older I started looking at getting another dog with similar qualities but without the shedding and this is when Irish Setters came into our lives.  Before space was an issue we also owned reptiles (pythons, boas and iguanas) and were members of the local herpalogical society.

Having fallen in love with the wildlife in Australia whilst on holiday it was only natural that once we moved here I would have to find a way to be involved.  In 2008 I became a RSPCA wildlife carer and now I actively rescue, treat and rehabilitate native wildlife including birds and possums in Canberra.
